South Table Mountain Park
Mesa-top Jeffco open space with the new 1.5-mile T. rex Tooth Trail and a 3-mile loop past the 1935 WPA amphitheater. Camp George West Trailhead at 1219 Kilmer Street.
Jefferson County Parks & Open Space manages the mesa-top trails on South Table Mountain, which it describes as habitat for cliff-nesting raptors as well as a place for hikes, runs and rides. The Camp George West Trailhead is at 1219 Kilmer Street, with further access points at 16741 Golden Hills Road and 17701 Rimrock Drive. The 1.5-mile multi-use T. rex Tooth Trail joins the Fossil, Old Quarry and Basalt Cap Loop trails to make a loop of about 3 miles.
The T. rex Tooth Trail passes the Colorado Amphitheater, built by Works Progress Administration crews in 1935 for the National Guard’s Camp George West; it is on Department of Energy land with no public access. The Castle Rock outcrop is on private property too, so the county asks visitors to stay on the marked trails. A hike-only link from the Jawbone Trail to the Welch Ditch Trail is under construction into 2027; riders and horses are pointed to the Tertiary and Ancient Palms trails.
Hours are from the JCPOS Regulations page (https://www.jeffco.us/1583/Regulations); the Lava Loop closure is from the JCPOS Alerts & Closures page.
