Centennial Cone Park
Near-backcountry Jeffco open space with a 12-mile loop, views of Clear Creek and a chance to see elk. Weekend trail use alternates by date; the park closes to the public in December and January for a permitted hunt.
Jefferson County Parks & Open Space describes Centennial Cone as a near-backcountry park: a 12-mile trail loop with long views of Clear Creek and a good chance of seeing elk. There are three trailheads: Ralph Schell at 3956 Camino Perdido (trailer parking allowed), Centennial Cone West at 2224 Douglas Mountain Drive and Mayhem Gulch at 32447 US Highway 6 (no trailers at either).
On weekends the trails alternate: hiking and horseback riding on odd-numbered dates, biking on even-numbered dates. In December and January the park is open only to hunters holding a county access permit and a qualifying Colorado Parks and Wildlife license.
Trailheads and the weekend rule are from the park page; the calving and hunting closures are from the JCPOS Alerts & Closures page, which notes opening dates can shift with wildlife activity. Hours are from the JCPOS Regulations page (https://www.jeffco.us/1583/Regulations).
