Clear Creek Trail

Paved, 10-foot-wide trail along Clear Creek that links downtown Golden with Clear Creek Canyon. The Gateway and Tunnel 1 trailheads have restrooms and more than 170 parking spaces.

The Clear Creek Trail, formerly the Peaks to Plains Trail, is a planned 65-mile route from the South Platte Trail in Denver to the headwaters of Clear Creek at Loveland Pass. Jefferson County Parks & Open Space is building the canyon section: the first four miles of 10-foot-wide paved trail beside the creek opened in 2016 and 2017, and the 1.75-mile Gateway Segment opened in August 2021, connecting with downtown Golden along Clear Creek and running west to Tunnel 1 beside US 6.

The Gateway Trailhead at the canyon entrance has a bike repair station and a drinking fountain with a ground-level bowl for dogs. Construction continues west of Tunnel 1; in the work zones there is no parking along US 6 and no launching or landing boats; expect weekday single-lane closures on US 6, which CDOT details.

Hours are the county open space hours from the JCPOS Regulations page (https://www.jeffco.us/1583/Regulations).
