Apex Park Trailhead

Jeffco foothills park minutes from downtown Golden, popular with mountain bikers for technical trails and the climb up Lookout Mountain. Several trails alternate between bikes and hikers by calendar date.

Apex Park is a Jefferson County Parks & Open Space foothills park a few minutes from downtown Golden, with a stream beside part of the trail and dense, shady forest at the west end. Mountain bikers come for the technical trails and the steep climb up Lookout Mountain.

Check the date before you go. Enchanted Forest and Magic Mountain are directional trails, and Poco Calle, Rocker, Paydirt and Smelter are connectors. On these designated-use trails, even-numbered dates are for bikes only and odd-numbered dates for hikers and horses only; on even dates riders must go one way, downhill and east, on every trail.

The water-tank closure is from the park page and the mud-closure rule from the JCPOS Alerts & Closures page. Hours are the county open space hours from the JCPOS Regulations page (https://www.jeffco.us/1583/Regulations).
